Mobile payment services Cash App and Square have been down for the better part of the day, and have only started to restore partial functionality.

Though the two services share the same parent company, Block, the problems may not be wholly related. Square first experienced issues on Sept. 6 and resolved the problem initially. But then it started a new incident report on Sept. 7 at 2:19 PDT. On the other hand, Cash App first updated its status page on Sept. 7 at 5:35 PDT.

In any case, as seen on Downdetector, thousands of reports started flowing in quickly, as both services seemed to be down entirely. Complaints on X (formerly known as Twitter) rolled in, leading Cash App to respond there as well:

For its part, Cash App advised users not to repeat transactions or to log out of the app while it investigated the issue. As of this morning, the latest Status Update states: "You Can now add cash, make purchases with your Cash Card, and more. We're continuing to get the ability to send payments and cash back up and running."

Previous updates over the last few hours are similar, each detailing another feature the company managed to fix. But the issue hasn't been fully resolved at time of publication. On the other hand, Square says it has fully resolved the issue it experienced.

Some users also reported issues with Apple Cash; Apple's status page confirms it recently resolved a problem.

For now, if you use Cash App, keep an eye on the company's status page. If you're still experiencing problems, it's not just you.
