Konami have announced a number of Silent Hill projects in the works, including a brand new movie Return to Silent Hill.

It's been a while since we've seen anything new in the Silent Hill world, be it games or other media. Yesterday, Konami decided that it was time for that to change, announcing not only a slew of games but a brand new Silent Hill movie.

We've seen two theatrical Silent Hill movies in the past. 2006's Silent Hill, directed by French director Christophe Gans, and a less well-received sequel Silent Hill: Revelation, directed by M. J. Bassett. While the first movie garnered respect from fans of series, its sequel fell a little flatter.

But if at first you don't succeed, try and try again. The upcoming Return to Silent Hill is set to be a direct sequel to Gans' 2006 Silent Hill, with the director himself coming back to direct. The sequel is currently in development, with Gans sharing some storyboards for the upcoming film during Konami's Silent Hill Transmission on Oct. 19.

While cast and story have yet to be fully confirmed, Return to Silent Hill is set to be based primarily off Silent Hill 2. The news came in conjunction with the announcement of a Silent Hill 2 remake.

Christophe Gans had previously confirmed that he had been working on a new Silent Hill film, revealing the information to French gaming website Jeux Video earlier this year.
