The Whitecaps will play in next seaon's Concacaf Champions Cup.

Vancouver Whitecaps are the new Canadian Cup champions and have earned a place in next season's CONCACAF Champions Cup.

The Whitecaps were victorious at home vs. CF Montreal, 2-1, thanks to goals from Brian White and Ryan Gauld. Vancouver's triumph in the competition is their second consecutive year in doing so, winning their third title in total.

The Whitecaps were the better side and deserved to come away with the win. They were aided by some late heroics from goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka in stoppage time.

Their victory over Montreal comes after CONCACAF revealed earlier this week the rebranded and revamped version of the highest club competition in North America, the Champions Cup. The competition was previously known as the CONCACAF Champions League and Liga MX club Club Leon were the last team to win it before the change was made.

The Whitecaps welcome their first trophy of the season as they sit in sixth place in the MLS Western Conference on 21 points from 16 games played. They've pulled off impressive wins earlier in the season against Seattle Sounders (2-0), Houston Dynamo (6-2) and Montreal (5-0).

Vancouver is the first MLS side to book their place in the next season's CCC, as other league foes look to join them and have a crack at the new $5 million cash prize.
