Netflix is producing a reality series based on the streamer's scripted horror series 'Squid Game'

UNITED KINGDOM, EUROPE: Netflix has launched a spinoff series based on one of the streaming service's most successful shows.

Fans were outraged when Netflix produced a reality series based on the streamer's scripted horror series, 'Squid Game.' They flocked to social media to express their outrage.

The official Netflix X account teased the upcoming series 'Squid Game: The Challenge' with a trailer.

The preview featured key components from the original series, such as Young-Hee, the enormous porcelain schoolgirl doll that screamed out directions to the participants during the Red-light, Green-light game.

Also featured were the guards in the deadly game, clothed in brightly colored hoodies and black masks that covered their entire faces.

The brief clip appeared to be a promo for a forthcoming season of 'Squid Game' rather than its sister program.

"456 real people. 4.56 million dollars. Squid Game: The Challenge begins November 22," the Netflix account wrote in the description.

'Squid Game: The Challenge,' on the other hand, does not appear to be a show that people want to watch.

Many viewers found Netflix's transformation of a series in which competitors were murdered if they failed a game into a quirky, unscripted program revolting.

In a discussion on X, several fans voiced their disapproval of the upcoming concert. One user noted, "Them folks not dying fr so this show not authentic."

Another user chimed in, "This feels gross idk." One fan wrote, "Watching squid game for them only." Others quipped, "Will the killing be real too??"

One user also joked asking, "What ? Is this the western version?" Others wondered, "Man when is season 2 dropping of the original show…" Some recalled, "@MrBeast

already did it. You’re too late."

Some criticized, "Is it me or is this show going completely against the message conveyed by the Squid Game series? We agreed that it was a criticism of reality TV which takes advantage of human misery, right?"

When will 'Squid Game' Season 2 air?

Fans looking for more 'Squid Game' may have to wait. Season 2's first table read was conducted in June 2023, with production set to begin later that year.

According to this schedule, fans may have to wait until 2024, or perhaps later, for the second season to premiere.

Who will star in 'Squid Game' Season 2?

In Season 1, the majority of fans' favorite characters perished. It's difficult to picture 'Squid Game' without Park Hae-soo's Sang-woo or Jung Hoyeon's Kang Sae-byeok, but fans have no option.

Netflix released a cast announcement video for 'Squid Game' Season 2 on June 17 at Tudum: A Global Fan Event.

Fans were aware that Lee Jung-jae's primary character, Seong Gi-hun, or Player 456, would return for another round of death games. However, this footage indicated that the new players are also fighting for their lives.

Lee Byung-hun will reprise his role as the Front Man, while Wi Ha-jun will reprise his role as Hwang Jun-ho.

The latter is a welcome surprise, considering the last time we saw Jun-ho, he had been shot by his brother, the Front Man, and had fallen over a cliff.

Fans of 'Squid Game' will be delighted to discover that Gong Yoo, who featured just briefly in Season 1, is also returning.

New players are also introduced in the video: Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun all hit the green button that signifies the game is on.

The remainder of the 'Squid Game' Season 2 cast was revealed by Netflix on June 28. Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, and Kang Ae-shim are among them. Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and, last but not least, Won Ji-an join the cast.

Why is 'Squid Game' Season 2 getting delayed?

The series has officially earned a second season two years after the premiere of its first season, extending its reign as Netflix's most-watched show ever. Season 2 was renewed in June 2022, a full nine months after the first episode aired.

The second season is set to be released in November 2023, but the key concern is whether Netflix will stick to this timeline.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director, spoke about his delicate process of delving deeper into known characters, adding that the first two episodes required six months of rigorous rewriting.

Fans who are looking forward to the next season may need to temper their enthusiasm, as the show may not be available on Netflix in 2023.

Lee Jung-jae, who plays Seong Gi-hun, announced that filming for 'Squid Game' Season 2 would begin in the summer, adding to the excitement.

In early 2023, reports of injuries during production surfaced, raising worries. Netflix confirmed that these were minor medical concerns, emphasizing the cast and crew's safety.

The Health and Safety Executive of the United Kingdom examined the manufacturing and found no severe issues, however, it warned of potential future hazards.

Given the previous production timetable of about ten months, plus an anticipated six months for post-production and promotion, fans may have to wait until 2025 for 'Squid Game' Season 2 to arrive at Netflix.

There is currently no official release date, but we will keep you updated on any developments about this exciting K-drama.
