So far this WNBA season we've had three 40-point performances from individual players. But what is the most points ever scored in a WNBA game?

It's still only June, but we've already seen three 40-point performances in the WNBA this season. The first one came on May 21st when Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty dropped 45 in a win over the Indiana Fever. That was the first 40-point game the W has seen since 2018.

Then we got two more spectacular performances from Connecticut Sun Forward DeWanna Bonner and Dallas Wings Guard Arike Ogunbowale in June.

Bonner had 41 on Jun. 8 in a win over the Las Vegas Aces. Ogunbowale also 41, but in a loss to the Seattle Storm.

This string of performances is historic. In fact, there's only been two other games where a player scored 40+ in WNBA history. Both performances were by the same player, and one of those games is the record-setter in league history.

So what is the most points ever scored in a WNBA game, you ask?

Most points ever scored in a WNBA game: 53 by Liz Cambage

On July 17, 2018 then Wings Center Liz Cambage went for 53 points against the Liberty. Cambage went 17-of-22 from the field including 4-of-5 from three-point range and an astounding 15-of-16 from the free throw line.

Just one month later Cambage went off again. Going for what was then the second highest point total in league history, 43 points. She did that against the Aces by going 14-20 from the field, 2-2 from three and 13-16 from the free throw line.

The former second overall pick led the league in points-per-game in 2018 (23.0) and was second in rebounds-per-game (9.7). She was named to the All-WNBA First Team.

Cambage most recently played for the Los Angeles Sparks in 2022 and averaged 13.0 points and 6.4 rebounds-per-game in 25 appearances. She is a four time All-Star and two time All-WNBA player.
