LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Marren Morris, the 33-year-old singer has announced her decision to quit country music. The Grammy-winning artist who has an estimated net worth of $8 million has made a name for herself in the industry with her hit tracks.

The singer who rose to fame at a very young age previously opened up about her upbringing and the financial difficulties she has faced.

Is Maren Morris facing financial difficulties?

Speaking to Instyle in 2019, the 33-year-old said, “I was taught the value of a dollar at a young age, and I think that wisdom has come in handy, going into being the CEO of myself.

"At 16, I was able to buy my own car — in cash — with my gig money. I remember that being such a huge thing, being able to immediately drive and not be in any debt," she added.

Why is Maren Morris quitting country music?

On Friday, September 15, Morris announced she was leaving the country genre music citing her concerns about the industry's resurgence of racist and misogynistic elements.

"I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over, but it’s burning itself down without my help," Morris said.

“The further you get into the country music business, that’s when you start to see the cracks. And once you see it, you can’t un-see it. So you start doing everything you can with the little power you have to make things better," the singer told the Los Angeles Times.

Lamenting the deteriorating state of country music, Morris, known for her vocal advocacy for marginalized communities has decided to "walk away."

Maren Morris slammed country music star Morgan Wallen

In 2021, Morris publicly condemned Morgan Wallen after he was caught on camera using a racial slur.

She has also been embroiled in conflicts with country singer Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany Aldean following the couple's transphobic remarks.

The songwriter particularly criticized Aldean's song, 'Try That in a Small Town,' which has been criticized as racially charged and controversial.

"I think it’s a last bastion. People are streaming these songs out of spite. It’s not out of true joy or love of the music. It’s to own the libs," said Morris.

"And that’s so not what music is intended for. Music is supposed to be the voice of the oppressed — the actual oppressed. And now it’s being used as this really toxic weapon in culture wars," she told the LA Times.

Morris described the EP as "the aftermath of walking away from something that was really important to you and the betrayal that you felt very righteously. But also knowing there’s a thread of hope as you get to the other side."
