West Ham United have announced that Tim Steidten has joined the club as their new technical director.

90min reported last week that the Hammers had selected the German to take on the role following an impressive spell at Bayer Leverkusen.

Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto, Brentford's Lee Dykes, Benfica's Rui Pedro Braz and Aston Villa's Johan Lange had also been considered for the job.

In a statement on Saturday, West Ham said: "West Ham United is delighted to announce the appointment of Tim Steidten as the Club's Technical Director.

"Steidten will be responsible for the Club's overarching player recruitment strategy and scouting department, working closely with Manager David Moyes and Sporting Director Mark Noble."

Steidten himself added: "I am extremely proud to be joining West Ham United, at such an exciting time in this Club's incredible history. Building on the Club's recent European success, there is already a fantastic team in place, but also so much ambition - from the Board, the Manager, his staff and the players - to continue succeeding, developing and growing. I cannot wait to play a key part in that. Come on you Irons!"

Manager David Moyes commented: "On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to welcome Tim to the West Ham United family. He has a strong track record in elite level football and we're really looking forward to working with him."

90min understands that West Ham are currently advancing in talks to sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester City, while Ajax's Edson Alvarez could join as a replacement for Arsenal-bound Declan Rice.
