Wayne Rooney has insisted that Harry Kane is being held like a 'prisoner' by Tottenham Hotspur amid links to Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Kane has been heavily linked with a move away from the Lilywhites this summer, with 90min reporting recently that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had met with Bayern to discuss a potential move for the club captain.

Tottenham have already rejected two bids from FC Hollywood this summer, and despite Kane having just one year left on his current deal and his representatives 'agitating' for a move, the north London side remain adamant that their star man is not for sale.

United have also been credited with an interest in the striker this summer, however they remain some way a part in regards to their valuation of Kane and Tottenham's valuation.

Speaking to The Athletic about Kane, England and United legend Rooney has hailed the striker as the 'ideal player' for the Red Devils to sign this summer, but due to Tottenham's insistence that they do not want to sell, he is being held like a 'prisoner' by his current club.

"Harry Kane would be the ideal player, for me, to go and join Manchester United. It looks like he's being held as a prisoner at Tottenham! It looks very difficult for him to get out of there," Rooney said.

"If Manchester United have Harry Kane, then that gives their chances of going to win, and compete, a lot easier. But where that happens, remains to be seen."

Kane's Tottenham kickstarted their pre-season campaign with a defeat to West Ham United in Australia on Tuesday, with the striker playing the first half of the eventual 3-2 loss.
