Long-time president of basketball operations Bob Myers and the Warriors are not close in terms of reaching an agreement on a contract extension, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Bob Myers' current contract expires on June 30 and both sides are preparing for a potential break up according to Shams Charania. Meyers has played a pivotal role in assembling a modern-day dynasty that has won four championships in less than a decade and is assuredly going to garner league-wide interest if he were to hit the open market.

Talks have stalled for several months after both sides were not able to agree on an offer, which has led Bob Myers to explore all options. Charania said this on Myers on The Athletic (subscription required):

Would Bob Myers really leave the Warriors to start over?

The idea of the winningest NBA front office executive of the past decade leaving to experiment with other pro sports leagues is unfathomable, while simultaneously a very real possibility. For the Warriors, it couldn't be much worse timing as they enter a question-filled offseason.

After a disappointing second-round exit to the Lakers, the Warriors must decide if they want to run it back with their core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

Green has a player option and contract negotiations of his own that need to be discussed, but he stated on his podcast that the trio has the desire to continue playing together in pursuit of a fifth championship. Thompson is also extension-eligible this offseason and it has been reported that he is expecting a maximum-level contract from the Warriors.

Head coach Steve Kerr is also in the final year of his contract, but he continues to downplay the matter. During his end-of-season interview, Kerr stated "We will get to my stuff whenever that happens and I'm in no rush for that."

Could this finally be the beginning of the end for the Warriors and their historic run? Bob Myers' contract situation is likely going to be the first domino to fall and will have a major impact on how the rest of the offseason shakes out for Golden State.
