Chiefs training camp got heated as Travis Kelce took a swing at a teammate after catching a touchdown from Patrick Mahomes.

Dear Travis Kelce,

Please refrain from throwing punches at helmets with a closed fist, an activity that could result in damage to the priceless hand that catches touchdown passes for the Chiefs.

Sincerely,

Every Chiefs fan on the planet

It wouldn't be training camp without a few fights. We see this every year around the NFL as adrenaline runs high and teammates get into scuffles on the practice field.

This time, it was Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce involved in the scuffle, which sparked after he caught a touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes and a teammate went a bit too hard for his liking after the whistle.

Travis Kelce sparks Chiefs training camp fight

Passion is a good thing on a football field. It's just got to be wielded with wisdom. And punching a man in a helmet is not particularly wise. That's how you break your hand — literally the last thing the Chiefs want to risk for a player as vital to their offense as Kelce is.

The whole wide-receiver-by-committee thing Kansas City has been rolling with since trading away Tyreek Hill has only been viable because of Kelce's presence as a primary receiving target at tight end. Take him away, and suddenly Mahomes' current batch of targets looks a whole lot less viable.

So Kelce can do all the pushing and shoving at camp that he wants, but a closed-fist swing is a no-go. That's not asking too much is it?

But hey, maybe those protective coverings over helmets in training camp are as much about protecting the guy punching them as protecting the man wearing them.

As they say, no harm, no foul.
