Tottenham Hotspur have condemned the racist abuse received by Destiny Udogie in the aftermath of their 2-1 win against Liverpool on Saturday.

Spurs beat the nine-man Reds in the dying embers thanks to an own goal from Joel Matip. Cody Gakpo had cancelled out a Son Heung-min opener in the first half, while the match has been the subject of controversy due to Luis Diaz's wrongly disallowed goal for offside when the score was at 0-0.

Udogie took to Instagram to celebrate Tottenham's win with a series of pictures from the game. However, the comments were then flooded with swathes of racist abuse.

In a statement released on Monday, Tottenham said: "We are disgusted at the racist messages directed towards Destiny Udogie on social media following Saturday's game against Liverpool.

"We will work with the Premier League and, where possible, take action against any individual we are able to identify.

"We stand with you, Destiny."

Udogie has started all seven of Tottenham's Premier League matches so far this season, registering two assists and keeping two clean sheets.

The 20-year-old joined up with the Spurs first-team for the first time over the summer having signed from Udinese in August 2022, spending the rest of last season back on loan at the club.

Over Tottenham's last two games, Udogie has received plenty of praise for his handling of Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

After receiving a booking early on in Spurs' 2-2 north London derby draw, Udogie recovered well to keep Saka quiet from open play. This was followed by a similarly impressive display against Salah, though Liverpool played with at least one fewer man for much of the game.
