Injury updates on Tottenham's injured stars, including James Maddison and Micky van de Ven

It was a collective gasp heard across the capital.

Tottenham supporters had already enjoyed a rollercoaster of a first half on Monday night before two of their brightest stars succumbed to injury in one fell swoop.

Spurs' lightning-quick start had set the stage for a beatdown of their west London rivals under the lights, but by the time James Maddison and Micky van de Ven had limped and hobbled off the pitch, Chelsea were seemingly going to coast to victory having restored parity after Cristian Romero saw red.

The injuries sustained by the aforementioned pair almost rendered Monday night's result insignificant given their importance to Ange Postecoglou's high-flying Lilywhites. Sustained absences could cripple Spurs' previously promising campaign.

Here are the latest updates regarding both, as well as the rest of Tottenham's injured stars.

Micky van de Ven

Van de Ven has been a revelation at the heart of Spurs' backline and key to their early success. However, it looks as if Ange will be without his speedy Dutchman for a while.

The centre-back pulled up in agony on Monday night, triggering a solemn gasp across the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The boss labelled Van de Ven's hamstring injury as "pretty significant" on Monday night, but he won't need surgery.

The Dutch defender missed two months of action with a related injury during his time at Wolfsburg and may have to sit out for a similar amount of time this time around which means he might not feature for Spurs again until the new year.

James Maddison

Maddison was withdrawn with an ankle injury against Chelsea, but Postecoglou hinted that there was an element of precaution about his substitution.

While Spurs' creative talisman is yet to train since picking up the knock, there's hope that Maddison won't miss much time at all. The midfielder might struggle to make Saturday's visit to Wolves, but he should be available after the international break.

Ben Davies

With Destiny Udogie suspended for Saturday's trip to Molineux, Postecoglou will hope he has Davies available.

The dependable Welshman missed Monday night's chaos after picking up an ankle injury in Spurs' victory over Crystal Palace. Fortunately, though, Davies is expected to return before the international break and feature against Wolves on Saturday.

Ryan Sessegnon

Sessegnon is yet to feature for the new manager after undergoing hamstring surgery in the summer, and it remains to be seen whether he has a future in north London considering Udogie's swift rise.

Nevertheless, Ange should be able to call upon the Englishman's services after the international break. Sessegnon returned to light training in October and has stepped up his recovery since.

Richarlison

Richarlison will soon undergo surgery to fix a pelvic issue. The Brazilian admitted he's been struggling with the problem for eight months and that the "time has come to rest".

"I've been suffering for eight months, fighting for the national team and my club and I didn't look for me," Richarlison said.

"I think the time has come to rest, take a break," he added. "Let's see the next few days, soon I'll do what's best for me."

It's unknown how long the forward will be out for.

Manor Solomon

Solomon had shown promise at the start of his Tottenham career, but he was dealt a significant blow at the start of October when he picked up a knee injury in training which required surgery.

The club confirmed the winger had suffered a meniscus injury to his right knee and he's not expected to feature again for the Lilywhites in 2023.

Ivan Perisic

Postecoglou was full of praise for Perisic after taking the job and the veteran winger looked set to play an important supporting role in 2023/24.

Perisic started the season with a string of appearances off the bench before he succumbed to a devastating ACL injury in training. The Croatian veteran has been out of action since mid-September and it'd be a surprise to see him feature again this season given the severity of the injury.
