LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Taylor Lautner recently made a joke regarding John Mayer, but he's now attempting to move past it. In a recent interview, the 'Twilight' star expressed a sense of relief following the announcement of Taylor Swift's re-recorded album, Speak Now (Taylor's Version), stating that he felt "safe." However, he mentioned that he was keeping John Mayer in his thoughts and prayers.

"I think it's a great album. Yeah, I feel safe," he told TODAY on Monday, May 15. "Praying for John." It was reported that Mayer, who is believed to be the subject of Swift's most poignant lyrics on the album, particularly in the song 'Dear John', expressed feeling "humiliated" by the track. Now, Lautner is backtracking on his statement. "I don't know if it was the wisest thing to say," Lautner clarified in a chat on SiriusXM. "I was definitely joking, but clearly it's taken off."

'I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up'

Earlier this month, during a performance in Nashville, Taylor Swift made an announcement regarding the release of Speak Now (Taylor's Version). She revealed that the album is set to be released on July 7 and will include six previously unreleased songs. "I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness," she wrote on social media following the announcement. "I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing … and living to speak about it."
