Spotify has a new shared listening option for Premium users: Jam, which lets people contribute to a shared queue.

By selecting “Start a Jam” on your favorite playlist or song, other Spotify users within your household on the same Wi-Fi network can join your Jam. Guests can join by tapping phones together, scanning a QR code from your device, or—for those listening from afar—clicking a share link you generate. Spotify says those with a free Spotify account can also listen in, presumably with the same limitations they'd encounter on other playlists.

"Simply invite your squad and Jam will help you find the perfect songs to add to the queue, finding the overlaps in your listening preferences to deliver music recommendations that everyone will love," Spotify says.

When you’re part of a Jam, you can add songs to the queue and see who added which song. If a song isn’t quite working in the Jam, the host can remove it, or even kick you out if your taste in music doesn’t vibe.

Jam is rolling out globally today, so keep an eye out for an app update to check it out.

Over the years, Spotify has embraced shared listening with the likes of Collaborative Playlists and Blend, both of which have garnered tens of millions of listening hours, Spotify says.
