Some iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro owners are reporting issues with their batteries.

According to The Verge, some iPhone users are reporting more battery degradation than they expected with the device. One user, Sam Kohl of AppleTrack, reported that his iPhone 14 Pro had dropped to a maximum battery capacity of 90% in July, and posted a follow-up video Friday saying the issue made it hard for him to recommend the phone to others. Wall Street Journal tech columnist Joanna Stern reported a similar issue this week and said her iPhone 14 Pro now has an 88% battery capacity.

The iPhone 14 is almost a year old. Apple says “your battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles,” so some of these users may be approaching that 500 charge point.

Battery replacements for the device also aren’t cheap. Without AppleCare or another extended service plan, a new battery for the device costs $99.

You can check on the battery health of your device by going to the Settings menu on your phone and then Battery. From there you’ll see a bar graph showing your iPhone’s battery charge levels and screen activity for the past 24 hours and the last 10 days.

If you are running low on battery power, tap the Activity tab on that page to see which apps are pulling the most from your battery. You can also see your battery's current Maximum Capacity.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 next month, and it's rumored to have a larger battery than previous models, increasing its battery capacity by 10%-18%.
