Got some old graphics cards lying around? Newegg today launched a GPU-focused trade-in program that will let people swap older cards for credit toward the purchase of a new GPU.

Look for a pop-up form on most Newegg graphics card product pages, and fill it in with details like chipset, model, and brand to verify if your card qualifies for the trade-in program. Once you receive an estimate, you can use a prepaid shipping label from Newegg to mail it to the retailer’s offices for inspection “at no cost.”

“Once verified, the customer will receive a credit in the amount of the offer applied to their new graphics card purchase. The credit will be refunded to their account via their original payment method,” Newegg says.

On the downside, the program seems to offer a lower value on many used GPUs compared to the average selling price for the products on eBay. For example, Newegg is only offering $334 for Nvidia’s RTX 3080 12GB models, even though they're currently selling for closer to $500 on eBay, according to the site's Terapeak tool.

The same is true for AMD cards. The Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB commands $363 through Newegg’s trade-in program. But on eBay, the card has been selling for $450 or higher.

Still, the trade-in program could appeal to users too busy to list their used GPUs on eBay, which will also take 13.25% of the final sale price, further diminishing the total profit. “The benefit of our trade-in program is the ease to send a used graphics card and buy a new one all within the same platform and avoiding the hassle of selling through a secondary market,” says Newegg Product Manager Amir Asadibagheri.

As for the GPUs it collects, Newegg says it will resell them as refurbished units.
