Ryan Gravenberch has indicated to Bayern Munich over the weekend that he would like to move to the Premier League amid transfer interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, 90min understands.

The Dutchman joined Bayern ahead of United last summer, but has failed to secure a regular first team place in the Bundesliga champions’ midfield - with Joshua Kimmich, Konrad Laimer and Leon Goretzka ahead of him in the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel has made it clear he would like to keep Gravenberch as a squad option, but the 21-year-old has recently moved to force his way out with Euro 2024 on the horizon next summer. Gravenberch is looking to secure regular football to ensure his place in the Dutch squad is assured for the tournament in Germany.

United have held interest in the player since the arrival of manager Erik ten Hag, who used to coach Gravenberch at Ajax and gave him his start in top level football.

Ten Hag wants to strengthen the under-fire United midfield before the transfer deadline on September 1, but United need to offload squad players first - with Donny van de Beek currently in talks with Real Sociedad. Ten Hag publicly confirmed Van de Beek was looking for a new challenge after the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday.

A deal for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has been lined up by United, but 90min understands that any permanent deal for the Moroccan is dependent on sales. United sources have not ruled out the Red Devils moving for both players but it would depend on the nature of the Gravenberch deal - whether permanent or on loan - and how much work the club can do on trimming their squad in the next couple of weeks.

Both United and Liverpool would prefer to move for Gravenberch on loan with an option to buy but Bayern, while resistant to letting the player leave, will push for a permanent transfer if they are to agree to it.

Tuchel has made no secret of his desire to sign a new number six throughout the summer and holds interest in Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips, and Bayern would like funds to reinvest when sanctioning any exit for Gravenberch.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been active in their own pursuit of new midfielders in recent weeks. The Reds made public offers for both Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo - both of whom joined Chelsea instead - and in response triggered a £16m permanent transfer for Stuttgart's Wataru Endo, who joined the club on Friday.

Jurgen Klopp's side are still active in the market and retain interest of their own in Gravenberch, even in the wake of three midfield signings already since the end of last season. Liverpool have signed Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister as well as Endo in recent months.
