How Serhou Guirassy matched Robert Lewandowski's Bayern Munich record and become only the second player to score ten goals in the first five Bundesliga matches.

There is one man leading the goalscoring charts in Europe's big five leagues this season. It's not Kylian Mbappe, it's not Erling Haaland and it's not Harry Kane.

No, the man who has been obliterating centre-backs this season is Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy, who netted another brace against Darmstadt in a 3-1 Bundesliga victory on Friday evening.

Guirassy has been simply unstoppable and now sits just one goal off his tally for the entirety of last season after just five Bundesliga matches. His sensational form has helped Stuttgart pick up four wins from their opening games, with Sebastian Hoeness's side having already netted 17 league goals.

Such has been Guirassy's brilliance, the forward has equalled a Bundesliga record that was set by Robert Lewandowski back in 2020 as he continues making waves in Germany.

How Guirassy matched Lewandowski's Bayern Munich record

Guirassy's goals on Friday evening take his Bundesliga tally to ten for the season, despite having played just five times. The striker has scored in every single game including a hat-trick, three braces and a solo strike in a heavy defeat to RB Leipzig.

As a result, Guirassy has become only the second player in Bundesliga history to reach double digits after five games. The only other player to do it was, of course, Lewandowski with Bayern Munich back in the 2020/21 season.

Lewandowski finished that campaign with 41 goals, breaking Gerd Muller's long-standing 40-goal record in the process. While it's unlikely Guirassy's form will be as consistent over the course of the campaign, he has already put himself in a strong position for the Bundesliga Golden Boot.

In fact, Guirassy is the only player in Europe's top five leagues to have hit ten or more goals this season. The next closest to his total are Manchester City's Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain's Mbappe with seven each. Not bad company to be keeping.

Who is Serhou Guirassy?

Guirassy may not be a new name for European hipsters out there. The 27-year-old has been around the block, with Stuttgart his seventh professional club.

The Guinea international, who was born in France and represented them at youth level, started his career at Stade Lavallois, now of Ligue 2. He has spent his entire career in Germany and France, featuring for Lille, Auxerre, Koln, Amiens, Rennes and now Stuttgart.

The lanky but powerful 6'2 centre-forward, who is somewhat reminiscent of Randal Kolo Muani in his play style, arrived at Stuttgart on loan in 2022, with a £7.8m deal being made permanent this summer after a season in which he scored 11 league goals.

Given how much Guirassy impressed in Germany last season, it's perhaps surprising that more clubs didn't identify him as a target during this summer's transfer window, but he will certainly have a host of teams' attention now.

His former club Koln are his next opponents and they will know first hand just how difficult the Guinean is to stop.
