The Texas Rangers inked Jacob deGrom to a five year, $150 million contract in the offseason in hopes that he would find his healthiest form in Arlington, Texas, and lead the team to the postseason and beyond for the first team since 2016.

Despite jumping out to a fantastic start to 2023, the Rangers are first in the AL West at 40-20, the team got news on Tuesday that deGrom will undergo Tommy John surgery that will end his season. While he has spent the season in and out of the rotation due to injuries, the upside of deGrom appearing in the Rangers' playoff rotation gave this team elite upside.

Now, the Rangers will continue to compete without him without the hope of him returning.

deGrom only pitched 30.1 innings this season spanning six starts, but the Rangers have still had control of the AL West for much of the season, boasting the best run differential in baseball this season at +155.

Oddsmakers haven't budged on the Rangers upside, keeping Texas' World Series odds the same despite the news of deGrom's upcoming surgery.

Texas is the fourth choice in the American League to win the World Series, behind the Rays, Astros and Yankees at +1400. While deGrom is the big name of the Rangers' rotation, the team's offense has been so potent that the former NL Cy Young winners impact has been negligible, and oddsmakers agree.
