Qantas Airways Ltd. was sued by Australia’s competition watchdog for allegedly selling tickets for thousands of flights it had already cancelled.

For more than 8,000 scheduled flights between May and July 2022, Qantas kept selling tickets on its website for an average of more than two weeks, and in some cases longer than a month, after the services were scrapped, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said Thursday as it started Federal Court proceedings against the airline.

The antitrust watchdog also claims Qantas took weeks to tell ticketholders on more than 10,000 flights that were due to depart in the same time period that their flights had been cancelled.

The ACCC said it’s seeking orders including penalties, injunctions, declarations and costs.
