The Philadelphia Phillies fanbase showed their support for shortstop Trea Turner during his rough season by giving him a standing ovation on Friday night.

The Philadelphia Phillies were looking to load up their roster to make another run to the World Series. Their big move was signing shortstop Trea Turner to an 11-year, $300 million contract this past winter. But through the first four months of the season, Turner has not played up to the lofty contract.

But on Friday, a Reddit user with the tag phillyeagles540 posted a challenge to fellow Phillies fans. Although the user was critical of Turner, they decided to multiply Turner's No. 7 with the amount of Phillies fans and donate that money to the V Foundation for cancer research.

On Friday night, the Phillies hosted the Kansas City Royals at Citizens Bank Park. Turner batted eighth in the order and when he stepped into the batter's box in the bottom of the second inning, Phillies fans gave him a standing ovation.

What an awesome moment. The fans cheering for Turner. Teammate and outfielder Nick Castellanos waved a towel to get the crowd louder. Chills.

Entering Friday night, Turner led the National League with 446 at-bats. With those at-bats, Turner recorded a .235 batting average, a .290 on-base percentage, a .368 slugging percentage, 10 home runs, 34 RBI, 60 runs scored, and 105 hits. In that span, Turner struck out 115 times and is on pace to surpass the 131 strikeouts in 160 games last year with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Even with Turner not putting up the numbers he's had in the past, the Phillies remain in contention for a postseason berth. Before the Royals game on Friday night, the Phillies sit one game ahead of the Cincinnati Reds for the second NL Wild Card spot.

Turner now knows that he has the support of Phillies fans.
