Pheu Thai, a party linked to former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, said it will seek to form a new government with Bhumjaithai Party, confirming the first member in a new coalition being cobbled together to end a political stalemate since the May election.

Pheu Thai will hold a news briefing about the new alliance at 4:30 p.m. in Bangkok, according to a party statement on Monday.

The move comes after Pheu Thai courted conservative parties to form a new coalition after breaking away from a previous pro-democracy bloc that included reformist Move Forward Party.
