Pep Guardiola talks about the injury picked up by John Stones in Manchester City's 3-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola has admitted that John Stones will be "out for a while" after sustaining an injury in Manchester City's win over Young Boys.

The England international recently returned to acton after a near two-month absence because of a hip injury. Stones missed 12 games for both club and country between August and October before making a cameo appearance in Manchester City's defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in October.

Since then, Stones has made six appearances for City and England, but has completed the full 90 minutes just once.

Stones was restricted to just 45 minutes of action in City's 3-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday evening - a win which sees City safely through to the knockout rounds of the competition - and speaking after the game, Guardiola revealed that his half-time substitution was due to a muscle injury the defender had suffered.

"It’s muscular, he is injured, so he’ll be a while out. It is a pity for him because he’s an incredible professional," Guardiola said.

"He tried to do it but it’s bad news for us. It’s the deep bad news for tonight."

The injury will likely rule Stones out of England's final Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia in mid-November, though he may not have been involved anyway as the Three Lions have already secured their place in France after comfortably beating Italy at Wembley last time out.
