Geoff Goodman, hero designer for the original Overwatch and its upcoming sequel, has left Blizzard.

Goodman, who had been part of Overwatch's development since the start "made the decision to leave Blizzard earlier this year," according to Blizzard. The news was first reported by PC Gamer on Tuesday.

Activision Blizzard issued a statement to PC Gamer, saying, "We thank Geoff for his many years of service at Blizzard and wish him all the best. His ability to bring to life Overwatch’s diverse hero roster through gameplay has been incredible, and the mark he’s left on the Warcraft and Overwatch teams will be felt for years to come."

Goodman had a hand in designing some of Overwatch 2's newest heroes, including Sojourn and Junker Queen. The game is set to launch as a free-to-play title on Oct. 4, 2022 featuring a seasonal battle pass with both free and premium tracks. Players will be able to unlock the game's newest heroes as part of the free battle pass.

Blizzard has not given a reason for Goodman leavin. The decision follows a number of high profile departures from Blizzard, including series executive producer Chacko Sonny in September 2021 and Diablo 4 game director Luis Barriga and lead designer Jesse McCree a month prior.
