Nothing has released update 2.0.2a for the Phone (2), which primarily focuses on camera improvements, but also includes some additional functionality based on community feedback. That's good news because the camera quality isn't exactly great, as we noted in our review.

The Nothing Phone (2) camera takes decent photos outside on a sunny day. However, the camera seems to struggle with finer details due to post-processing woes, and it doesn't work the best in low light. The latest update improves low-light performance, image clarity when in 50MP mode, and face clarity in indoor environments. HDR in particular receives faster processing speed and improvements to things color tone while removing issues like the halo effect.

Update 2.0.2a adds a couple of other, smaller features to the Phone (2). Chief among them is a thermal management feature that will shut down apps in the event the phone gets too hot.

It also applies Google's July security patch, which fixes issues with double-tap to wake, Google Wallet functionality in cloned apps, and some responsiveness bugs. There are also some graphical changes for icons and the out-of-battery visual when the phone is out of juice.

The camera updates are widely appreciated since camera quality was one of the low points of the phone, garnering almost universal criticism for a camera at its price point. Fortunately, it seems most of the issues are caused by software and it's something Nothing is dedicated to fixing. Nothing has the full list of changes available for anyone who wants to learn more.
