NFL Rumors: Jonathan Taylor blinks first, plans return to Colts camp

This summer, the NFL world saw the relationship between Jonathan Taylor and the Colts dissolve before their eyes. While running backs around the league were lowballed, Taylor wanted a new deal from Indianapolis. Things got ugly on social media and in private, with the result being a trade request.

Then last week, Taylor left Indianapolis to continue rehabbing the ankle injury that put him on the PUP list away from the team, further highlighting the separation between the player and the Colts.

Now it looks like he'll be back, at least for the rest of training camp.

On Sunday, head coach Shane Steichen confirmed to reporters that Taylor is expected back at the facility this week, though he couldn't give an exact date on his return. When the team medical staff clears him for action, he is also expected to return to the field with the intention of playing football this season.

One thing has been made very clear, however: Returning to camp does not mean Taylor has rescinded his trade request. He still wants out.

NFL Rumors: Dolphins protecting Jaylen Waddle from Jaylen Waddle amid injury scare

Jaylen Waddle is of massive importance to the Dolphins offense, so of course his injury scare last week put Dolphins fans on edge.

The good news is that Waddle appears to have avoided a serious problem. Head coach Mike McDaniel said there are no long-term concerns about the injury. That doesn't mean fans can expect to see Waddle back out there too quickly. He did not practice on Sunday.

The plan for now is to be conservative with the star wide receiver and there is no timetable for his return just yet.

For now, there doesn't seem to be much reason for worry. A player like Waddle has already proven what he can bring in the NFL over the last two seasons. Slow-playing his return in the preseason makes a lot of sense.

In other injury news, there doesn't seem to be a timetable for cornerback Cam Smith either. The second-round draft pick injured his shoulder in the preseason opener on Friday but he too is not expected to face a long-term absence, according to the Palm Beach Post.

NFL Rumors: Ravens hope on Jadeveon Clowney wasn't dashed by Jaguars visit

The Ravens hosted Jadeveon Clowney last week and extended an offer in hopes of adding the veteran defensive lineman to their front in 2023. However, Clowney left his visit without accepting, "taking some time to think it through," according to Josina Anderson.

So word that Clowney was visiting the Jaguars on Sunday might have worried Ravens fans just a bit.

Fortunately for Baltimore, at least for now, Clowney also left that visit without a contract, according to Ian Rapoport.

Jacksonville could still be in play for Clowney, but there was a real chance the DE could have put pen to paper there and then for the Jaguars. The fact that he's still considering his offers means the Ravens are still in the race. That's certainly better than being out of it.

The Ravens have been after Clowney for several free agency cycles but he's always landed with other teams. Since leaving the Texans in 2019, he's played for the Seahawks, Titans and Browns. Maybe this time is the charm for Charm City.
