NFL Rumors: Brittany Mahomes has a blazing hot July 4th take

Another Mahomes in the news not named Patrick. Here we go again.

Brittany Mahomes, the wife of two-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes, gave a not-so-patriotic take about Fourth of July celebrations.

She's been dragged in the mud before for her cringe-worthy social media usage, perhaps only surpassed by Patrick's brother, Jackson Mahomes, in terms of how much fans loathe her online presence.

Now, cyberbullying is not okay. People should have the right to post whatever they want on social media as long they're not spewing hateful bile, and Brittany Mahomes' most recent opinion is not hateful bile at all. In fact, it's an opinion shared by many mothers, dog-owners, and veterans, presumably.

Her sentiment immediately received backlash from what we assume are Kansas City Chiefs haters, calling her a "grandma" and bashing on her anti-USA attitude. However, the mother of two just seems to have her children's best interests in mind, and that is far from a crime.

Leave Brittany Mahomes alone and find a real bully to pick on, you internet trolls.

NFL Rumors: Brock Purdy far from a sure starter, Trey Lance still in the mix

Amid reports of Brock Purdy progressing well in his recovery from elbow surgery earlier this offseason, there's a new rumor going around the Bay Area.

Apparently, the San Francisco 49ers haven't "soured" on 2021 third-overall pick Trey Lance despite recent speculation over his potential trade.

Lance has danced between the lines of being the 49ers' go-to starter to being a third-string emergency fire extinguisher, his stock dropping lowest in late June when Adam Schefter said that he believes Purdy is No. 1 and Sam Darnold is No. 2 on the depth chart.

According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports, however, the backup quarterback job in San Francisco is still very much up in the air.

"I don't think the 49ers have enough information to tell you who is in line to be the backup. I dispute the notion that the 49ers have soured on Trey Lance. I think they like him now more than they ever have since they've had him with the 49ers, but they just don't know how he would perform."

Lance, who missed the majority of the 2022 season due to a broken ankle, has less experience than Darnold, who's played 56 games in the last five years. Yet Darnold's history (crash and burn in New York, vote of no confidence in Carolina) could instead work against his favor compared to someone with a clean slate, like Lance. Darnold only registered one season with a pass completion rate above 60 percent — are the 49ers really going to put their win-now championship hopes in his wobbly hands?

In reality, either Darnold or Lance could feasibly leapfrog into the backup role by the offseason's end depending on their preseason performances. If there's a winner already called out of all of this, it's the 49ers for having two decent and healthy options behind Purdy. No more reliving that NFC Championship nightmare again.

NFL Rumors: Colin Cowherd will want to eat his words on Seahawks 2023 fate

Every sports pundit has his controversial say-what-now take from time to time, and Colin Cowherd is no exception. The FOX Sports analyst recently gave his predictions for 2023's NFC West rankings, and he had the Los Angeles Rams finishing first.

Just kidding, that would be clinically insane. But he did have them finishing second in the division behind the 49ers, beating out the Seattle Seahawks for a wild card spot.

Cowherd said:

I think the Rams and the Seahawks will be tied at the end of the year, both winning about nine games. I don't think Geno Smith will double down on that year. Most of their stars are still very young, schedule may be a tad tougher.

The Rams still have Stafford, they have Sean McVay, they have Cooper Kupp, they have Aaron Donald. Don't tell me they're gonna stay down long. It's a coach-quarterback-weapon league.

Pinning hopes on the trio of Stafford, Kupp, and Donald is fine, but Cowherd has to realize those three alone won't win games.

This is not the same Rams' Super Bowl-winning squad. This is a roster that completely fell apart last season in part due to the revolving turnstiles that epitomized the offensive line. Ten different linemen surrendered sacks in 2022. The Rams need to see a vast improvement from its front five to even think about staying competitive in their division.

The Seahawks don't have the strongest trench forces either, but they at least have high upside in young tackles like Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas. Another golden year from Geno, more production from their wideouts (we'll take Metcalf, Lockett, and Smith-Njigba over Kupp any day), and the gritty resolve of Pete Carroll could turn Seattle into sneaky playoff contenders in a relatively weak NFC.
