The Sacramento Kings used the 2023 NBA Draft to dump salary and clear the books. This could be the beginning of a big offseason.

The Kings had a very interesting draft, beginning the night with the No. 24 pick. Rather than selecting a player, they opted to move their draft pick to dump Richaun Holmes's contract to the Mavs.

According to Nate Duncan, the Kings now have over $30 million in cap space this summer. This is a team that is looking to win now after making the Domantas Sabonis trade two years ago. They were able to make the playoffs last season but lost to the Warriors in the first round.

Sacramento is a really fun team to watch. They are not the best team by any means and they will always have the flaw in that they do not have a top-15 player on their roster if De'Aaron Fox does not make another leap. Still, this is a very fast offense that could be a fun power forward away from making some serious noise.

The Kings have a solid bench but the Holmes contract was seen as a blemish on their cap sheet. Getting rid of it allows the team to not have any objectively bad contracts on their team. They also ended up with Colby Jones in the second round of the draft, who could be a nice backup guard as he develops. This would help in replacing Malik Monk next off-season if he chooses to leave.

Who should the Sacramento Kings target in free agency this off-season?

Kyle Kuzma would be really fun to add to this team. A signing could happen now due to the fact the Wizards are finally rebuilding and the Kings' cap space could accommodate what he'll be looking for. The Kings could also try to absorb John Collins ins trade. Both of these players would make the Kings that much more fun to watch as a league pass team.
