The Nationals and Mets almost made it through Thursday's game without weather getting in the way. But almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

In the eighth inning, a storm rolled through, forcing a delay. The timing couldn't have been worse on that one, as the Mets had the bases loaded in a tie game. They're going to have to hope the stoppage in play doesn't make their bats go cold as well.

When will the game restart? We're tracking all the updates from New York.

Has the Nationals vs. Mets game today been canceled?

No. The game is in a delay and there is no official word about a postponement.

Nationals vs. Mets rain delay: Weather updates for Mets game today

This post will be updated as official updates are provided by the team.

At 9:51 p.m. ET, the Mets tweeted that the weather has delayed the game. They did not provide an update on when fans can expect play to restart.

At the time of the delay, the Mets and Nationals were locked in a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with the bases loaded and one out on the board. When the game gets going again, NY will have a strong chance to take a late lead.

Unfortunately, Mets beat writer Tim Healey suspected the delay might be a long one.

Daniel Vodelbach's RBI single earlier in the inning scored the tying run for New York.

The Nationals had taken the lead in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Keibert Ruiz. Washington's Josiah Gray had gone six innings, giving up just two hits.

Kodai Senga gave up two hits and one run in his six innings of action for the Mets.
