Lindsey Horan, who was recently included in the 2023 Women's World Cup squad for USWNT, is headed to France to play for Lyon.

USWNT midfielder Lindsey Horan joins the French side on a permanent deal after originally arriving on loan in February.

After playing over 100 games across six seasons for NWSL side Portland Thorns, midfielder Lidsey Horan departs for Lyon after two successful loan spells with the French club. Horan will join fellow USWNT teammate Catarina Macario at Lyon, being the only two Americans at the club.

"Since Lindsey left on loan for France we have remained in contact and continued the dialogue about her return to Portland. She has had a tremendous experience at Lyon, and we are thrilled for all of her success," Portland Thorns general manager Karina LeBlanc said.

"In our discussions, Lindsey expressed her desire to remain there long term and continue that journey. She has our full support, and we are grateful for all the success she has helped bring to this club."

The 29-year-old was key to Thorns FC's NWSL Championship win in 2017 and their two NWSL Shields in 2016 and 2021. The 2021 U.S Soccer Female player of the year remarked on her time with Thorns FC that saw her tally over 40 goal contributions while playing in the midfield:

"Portland holds such a special place in my heart, I made many incredible memories I will never forget. On top of that, I also had the opportunity to win multiple trophies and share that success with so many amazing people," she said.

"I want to thank all those at the Thorns organization who have supported me along the way, my teammates, my coaches, and of course, the best fans in the world. Playing for this club and city and getting to experience gameday at Providence Park brought me great joy during my career. For me, Portland will always be home. Thank you for understanding my goals and dreams in my continuing career."

Now, Horan will prepare for the 2023 Women's World Cup as the USWNT aim to win the tournament for the third consecutive time.
