Lamine Yamal has revealed that he's "calm" ahead of potentially becoming Spain's youngest ever player.

At just 16 years old, Barcelona prodigy Yamal looks set to become Spain youngest ever senior international when the nation faces off against Georgia on September 8 in a Euro 2024 qualifier. If he does feature, Yamal would beat Gavi's record by over a full year - Gavi made his debut aged 17 and 62 days.

Speaking about his first call up and impending debut to Spain's official social channels, Yamal insisted the pressure is not getting to him.

"It’s incredible to be able to live this, I want to enjoy it to the fullest," he confessed. "I’m calm, I’m already used to Barca, so let’s see how everything goes.

"I always talk to [Alejandro] Balde and he tells me to enjoy it, not to be afraid, to face it. Gavi the same, he tells me to go without fear. And Pedri more of the same, they help me a lot."

The youngster has taken La Liga by storm since debuting for Barcelona at just 15 years old, and has started off the 2023/24 as a regular for the club, starting three games already. Yamal has thoroughly impressed Barca's star striker Robert Lewandowski, with the Pole telling the press that the youngster has a "wow" factor.

"I haven’t seen such a player at this age at this level for a long time, but on the other hand I’m afraid it’s too early for him," Lewandowski said recently. "He’s still a kid, he’s 16.

"Now everyone is fascinated by him. I don’t want to criticise him because I love Lamine, I’m trying to help him too, but he realises the adversity or the situation that awaits him. There’s fascination now, but the expectations are about to begin."
