LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jake Gyllenhall was short-listed to play Batman in the Christopher Nolan trilogy.

The ‘Brokeback Mountain’ star, however, got to see his co-star Heath Ledger playing ‘the Joker,’ and sister Maggie Gyllenhall as the love interest of Bruce Wayne.

Screenwriter David S Goyer during his appearance on the ‘Happy Sad Confused podcast,’s recent interview revealed, "We would chat about all sorts of things. There were a number of people who had screen-tested, and I had advocated for Gyllenhaal." Goyer added, "I mean, Gyllenhaal is amazing, Christian Bale is amazing, so who knows what."

The screenwriter also threw an interesting story on The Riddler’s role. As per Goyer, one of the executives at Warner Bros. wanted to rope in ‘The Revenant’ star Leonardo Di Caprio to play the character of its villain.

"That's not the way we work," as he explained that their movies are built around a story or theme, not building it around any particular villain.

Interestingly, Jake was part of a comic-book movie in 2019, where he got to play supervillain Mysterio opposite Tom Holland in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home.’

"It was such a cathartic thing to be able to throw out away all that seriousness and really become the actor that I think I've always wanted to be in a lot of ways,” Jake shared his experience working on Jon Watts movie.

“ ... We go through journeys in our life where we're finding ourselves, and in the case of Spider-Man, I think I realized, 'Hey, you know, acting's really fun, you know, enjoy it!' "

Jake recently commented on his romantic relationship with Jeanne Cadieu. "It's no secret that I'm in a relationship and it's a wonderful relationship," he told People. “We are private, but I guess we are who we are. We're just living our lives. We always have."

"I love that people are interested, but at the same time, it's like what's ours is ours," Jake said.

Jake is working on several upcoming projects, one of them being Sam Hargrave's 'Prophet.'

The 42-year-old talked about raising a family in the near future, “I would love to have a family, and if it's anything like the family that my sister's raised and has cultivated, I would be proud."

“It's all about growing together and listening and being open. It's really not much different from any relationship when it works.
