Add one more heartbreaking highlight to the Mets' 2023 season: Yankees' Isiah Kiner-Falefa just stole home and made it look as easy as pie.

The New York Mets' 2023 season might as well have been written by Lemony Snicket because it's been a long series of unfortunate events.

The Edwin Diaz injury. The regression of veteran aces and the bullpen. Pete Alonso on IL.

In Wednesday night's game against the New York Yankees, the Mets suffered one of its most painful moments of the year, a moment that came and went in a matter of seconds.

In the seventh inning, Yankees outfielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa completed one of the wildest heists of the season. Kiner-Falefa had already swiped second base and advanced to third on a Mets' misplaced throw when he saw his moment to achieve a rare feat. With Mets' reliever Brooks Raley on the mound and with third baseman Eduardo Escobar away from base, Kiner-Falefa took off for home plate and easily stole home, extending the Yankees' lead to 3-1.

Mets hit a new low after Isiah Kiner-Falefa stole home in Yankees game

Raley's throw home sailed far from its target toward the backstop and allowed the swift-footed Kiner-Falefa to score essentially an uncontested run.

This marked the first steal of home plate by a Yankees player since Didi Gregorius completed the feat in August of 2016.

Kiner-Falefa now has eight steals this season, and his sneaky baserunning dealt the latest heavy blow to Mets' morale in the Yankees-Mets series opener at CitiField on Wednesday.

Heading into the game, the Mets held a 31-36 record and sit in fourth in the NL East.

But for all that pain, it was the Yankees who were left going home in shambles in extra innings after a Brandon Nimmo walk-off game-winner in the 10th inning.

Talk about a New York-sized range of emotions.
