Players can either wait or sleep to pass time in Starfield. Here's how to do both.

Like many Bethesda games, Starfield has the option to pass time quickly. Players may need to do this at some point to activate and start a time-specific mission.

Waiting and sleeping are ways to progress time in the space RPG. Continue reading to find out how to do each method.

How to Wait in Starfield

You can rest on furniture to pass the time in the game. More specifically, sitting on chairs, sofas, benches, etc., allows you to speed through the night or day. You can find these almost anywhere in Starfield, especially in big cities like New Atlantis and Neon.

Here’s how to sit and wait:

  1. Stand next to a chair, sofa, bench, etc., and press E (or Xbox equivalent) to sit.
  2. Press B (or Xbox equivalent) to open the wait menu.
  3. When the wait menu shows, select how many hours you’d like to skip.
  4. Confirm the hours by pressing E (or Xbox equivalent.)

You can also lay in a bed to sleep and skip time. You’ll usually find these in places you own, like your spaceship or room. Sleeping gives you a “well-rested” buff, meaning your XP gets a 10% boost.

Here’s how to sleep:

  1. Stand beside a bed and press E (or Xbox equivalent) to lie in it.
  2. When the wait menu shows, select how many hours you’d like to skip.
  3. Confirm the hours by pressing E (or Xbox equivalent.)

Keep in mind that you can wait or sleep for a maximum of 24 hours.
