Harry Kane warns Tottenham that this summer must bring significant change.

Harry Kane has warned Tottenham fans that 'a lot needs to change' at the club before they can start competing for major honours.

Kane will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer and is a serious transfer target for both Bayern Munich and Manchester United, while PSG have entered the race and Spurs expect Chelsea interest. However, chairman Daniel Levy has not yet given up hope of keeping him.

The striker has never hidden his determination to compete for major trophies before his career comes to a close and, after Spurs fell to Brentford in their final home game of the season, Kane acknowledged the uphill battle ahead for the club.

"There’s a big summer ahead and a lot that needs to change here to start being successful again," Kane said. "Ultimately my focus now is to enjoy this last week as much as possible and to try to finish with a win on Sunday."

Kane added: "I think there’s a conversation to be had, in terms of some of the values of the club. We’ve had many conversations before like that, how we can improve, and that will be the case again."

The first, and most obvious, change at Tottenham this summer will be the hiring of a new manager. Spurs remain under the interim control of Ryan Mason, whose desire to take the job permanently has been made clear. But club officials are still considering their options, including Feyenoord's Arne Slot and have held initial talks with the Dutchman.

On a deeper level, however, Spurs fans are demanding serious investment in the playing squad to bolster a team that is on track to miss out on European football altogether this season, while calls for chairman Levy to step aside have been growing among matchgoing supporters in recent weeks.

Spurs have fallen to eighth in the Premier League, one point behind Aston Villa in the final Europa Conference League spot. Mason's side travel to Leeds on the final day and, if they are to qualify for the competition, will need a slip-up from Villa against Brighton.
