Gregore is staying put in south Florida.

Inter Miami signed midfielder and former club captain Gregore to a new contract, showing faith that the player can get back to his best after his season-ending injury earlier this season.

The new deal for the 30-year-old sees him extend his stay with the Herons through the 2025 MLS season with an option for the 2026 campaign. Gregore initially signed for Miami in 2021 from Brazilian side Bahia and has made 65 appearances while dishing out eight assists.

"Gregore encapsulates everything we want out of an Inter Miami player, so we’re really happy to keep him with us for a long time," sporting director and chief soccer officer Chris Henderson said in a release.

"Gregore is not only our engine in the middle of the field, but a leader both on and off the pitch. We’re excited to see him return soon and continue to build an exciting team with him moving forward."

The midfielder has remained out of action for Miami since he suffered an Lisfranc injury against New York City FC on March 11. Gregore underwent surgery to repair the injury in mid-March, and Miami will be in no rush to get him back into the mix as they've missed out on 2023 MLS Cup playoffs.

Prior to his injury, Gregore notched one assist in three league appearances in 2023, back when Phil Neville was still at the helm for Miami.

"I'm honored to continue to represent this great Club. I will keep fighting to bring us to the places we want to reach as a team, and will do everything I can to help lead this amazing group," Gregore said.

"Inter Miami has given me a lot in my time with the Club and I want to repay that faith in me by giving the best of myself at all times."

With Gregore back in the squad for the 2024 MLS season, Miami head coach Gerardo 'Tata' Martino will have plenty of quality depth in the midfield to choose from with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Benja Cremaschi, Dixon Arroyo, Diego Gomez, Jean Mota and David Ruiz all ready to take part (unless the transfer window says otherwise).

The Herons return to action on October 18 for a home clash with Charlotte FC, and Martino will probably be without several key players due to the international break. Miami will then travel to North Carolina to take on Charlotte FC in the reverse fixture on October 21 before kicking-off their international tour in China on November 5.
