Diablo Immortal's microtransactions appear to be getting out of hand, after a new report suggests that fully maxing out a character could cost players up to $110,000.

A video by YouTube channel Bellular News reported that the premium currency Legendary Gems, used to upgrade characters in post-game content, cannot currently be earned in-game without paying for them. On top of that, players also cannot just purchase the Legendary Gems outright, instead having to rely on them being dropped from Legendary Crests — Diablo Immortal's loot boxes.

The video's analysis claims that, thanks to this, players are looking to spend up to $110,000 just to max out their character post-game.

Diablo Immortal is a free-to-play game which launched on mobile devices, with an open beta underway for PC. The game currently has three main elements to its progression: equipment level, XP, and Legendary Gems. For free-to-play players, it's the Legendary Gems which see them locked out of content, and given their supposed importance post-game, the term pay-to-win becomes more applicable.

The game's use of loot boxes has actually seen it fail to launch in both the Netherlands and Belgium, due to both countries' laws on loot boxes. Players were briefly able to pre-register for the game in both regions though access was removed just a few days later.
