After receiving a bit of backlash from players regarding new age restrictions on some in-game cosmetics, Fortnite has decided to change course.

On November 16, Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite, introduced new age and content ratings for every island in the game. The idea behind the move was to help parents and players have a bit better idea of what experiences they might have on each island, and allow parents to restrict certain islands they would prefer their children not play on.

Unfortunately, some of the cosmetics purchasable through the game aren’t compatible with every island. When it announced the new restrictions, Epic also indicated that a “small portion” would not be compatible on certain islands depending on the game ratings.

That means that a player might not be able to use some of the cosmetics they purchased, which didn’t go over well with the player community.

The restriction only applies to roughly 7% of Fortnite Outfits, which will only be able to be equipped on islands rated Teen.

While the company announced plans to enable most of the outfits to be compatible with all ratings in the future, after a bit of backlash, Fortnite acknowledged that restricting cosmetics might have missed the mark, and announced plans to make some changes.

The tweet also teases a yet-to-be-announced “big in-game event” soon, which might soften the blow for some of the players upset by the update.
