The annual Gala, which attracts over 700 people and features an excellent lineup of authors, is a high point of New York's social calendar

NEW YORK CITY, UNITED STATES: On May 17 in New York City, Emily Ratajkowski attended the 2023 PEN America Spring Literary Gala, hosted at the American Museum of Natural History. The 31-year-old model, who is the author of the collection of personal essays ‘My Body’, concealed her imposing body in a floor-length black gown and black sandal heels.

The Vogue cover model had fringe surrounding her face and her beautiful dark hair parted in the middle, cascading straight over her shoulders. For the evening, the mother-of-one opted for a dewy glam look that included light eyeshadow, a hint of pink blush, and nude lipstick on her pout.

In its annual Literary Gala, PEN America honors authors who "champion and defend freedom of expression." Producer of 'Saturday Night Live' Lorne Michaels, 78, is one of the honorees this year and will receive the Audible Literary Service Award. Several of his 'SNL' cast members, including 40-year-old presenter Colin Jost, showed up to show their support for him. The black-tie affair includes a cocktail hour, dinner, awards, dessert, and an afterparty. The money raised goes towards PEN America's advocacy efforts and cultural programming.

‘Free Narges'

Actor Alec Baldwin, 65, and his wife Hilaria Baldwin, 39, who were also there, made a stunning couple on the red carpet. The ‘Glengarry Glen Ross' actor looked dapper in a black suit and bowtie. He recently became a grandfather when his eldest daughter Ireland, 27, gave birth to daughter Holland.

The father of seven had his salt-and-pepper hairstyle gel-slicked back. In contrast, his wife looked absolutely stylish in a black dress with a fringe made of tiers of feathers. The yoga instructor had her brown hair pulled back into a chic bun. She accessorized with a gold bangle, many rings, and glittering earrings.

Hilaria chose a subtle glam look, donning blush and nude matte lipstick. Hilaria and Alec were once seen waving placards in support of Iranian human rights advocate Narges Mohammadi, who is presently serving an eight-year term for suspected national security offenses. "Free Narges and all Iranian political prisoners" was the message on Hilaria's sign. Meanwhile, Alec’s sign read, "Narges stands for peace."

A star-studded gala

Tahgi Rahmani, Narges' husband, who accepted the PEN/Barbey Freedom to Write Award on her behalf, was also featured in an Instagram post by Baldwin. The actor captioned the photo, "Unbelievable courage on both of their parts."

The 64-year-old Candace Bushnell was as stunning as ever in a black gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline and feather detailing. The author, famed for penning the weekly column ‘Sex and the City' that gave rise to the well-known HBO series and films, gave the ensemble height by donning a pair of silver heels.

The 'original Carrie Bradshaw' had blonde hair styled in bouncy locks. On the red carpet, she was joined by 68-year-old author Jay McInerney.

Lorne Michaels, Diane von Furstenberg and others

Lorne Michaels looked dapper in a black suit and bowtie. Suzanne Nossel, 53, the CEO of PEN America, accompanied him and looked stunning in a strapless green dress. Diane von Furstenberg, a 76-year-old Belgian fashion designer, looked stunning in a floral-print jacket and trousers.

She wore her brunette hair in loose curls and accessorized with a black crossbody bag. Barry Diller, her 81-year-old husband, accompanied Diane. He looked dapper in a black suit and yellow-tinted spectacles.

Actress Candice Bergen, 77, wore a white top underneath a black jacket with feathers. She accessorized her chic ensemble with wide-leg trousers and glamorous black heels. 'SNL' comedian Michael Che, 40, was seen standing by Lorne inside the event while dressed in a black suit.

The honor will be only one of several that Michaels has won in the course of his career. The renowned Canadian-American television producer holds the record for receiving the most nominations in the history of the award ceremony with 98 total nominations and 21 Primetime Emmy Awards.
