Travis Jay is leaving Florida State to play for Deion Sanders at Colorado after hitting the transfer portal last month.

Jay announced on Twitter Friday night that he indeed will play for Coach Prime in Boulder. Sanders is a Seminoles legend and the greatest cover cornerback in NFL history. He is one-of-one and still seems to carry weight with players who never saw him play. Jay could compete for playing time right away, something that had evaded him on Mike Norvell's ACC program over in Tallahassee.

Keep in mind that Jay was academically ineligible to play in two of his four years at Florida State.

Colorado notoriously made it difficult for players' credits to count when transferring in, but this is a new day and age for Buffaloes football with Coach Prime as the face of it. Will it all be worth it?

It is going to be one fascinating story for how the Coach Prime era of CU football goes. Since he is my favorite NFL player of all time, I am absolutely rooting for him here. However, he is taking over arguably the worst Power Five program in the country in a league that may not survive the current wave of conference realignment. Then again, Sanders is a culture changer. Let's hope it works out.

In Sanders' first year at Colorado, I anticipate for the Buffs to approach .500 on the season. If they make it to a bowl game year one, that would be simply incredible. As far as potential team strengths, I think they will be solid out on the perimeter and at quarterback with Coach Prime's son Shedeur Sanders under center. Where I think the Buffs will struggle mightily is in the trenches.

Overall, a change of scenery was probably exactly what Jay needed anyway. He spent four years in Tallahassee and saw the Seminoles go from a completely dysfunctional mess under Willie Taggart to a sneaky-good College Football Playoff dark horse under Norvell. Of course, keep in mind that Sanders is really tight with Taggart. He almost joined this staff and recruited his son to go to FAU.

If playing time and opportunity is what Jay wants, then he is getting it all and more with Colorado.
