Brock Purdy seems to be progressing well during his recovery from a serious elbow injury.

San Francisco 49ers fans should be elated to hear even more good news about Brock Purdy.

Last year's rookie season went from "Mr. Irrelevant" to the new face of the Super Bowl-contending franchise. What else can I say? Brock rocks! Unfortunately, he did suffer a ghastly elbow injury that rendered his throwing arm useless in the nasty NFC Championship game defeat at the Philadelphia Eagles. Thankfully, Purdy looks to be well on his way toward playing this year.

Purdy headed to Jacksonville on Monday afternoon to throw with quarterback coach Will Hewlett, and in front of orthopedic specialist Tom Gormely. Tom Pelissero's report for The NFL Network is a huge sign in the positive direction that Purdy will indeed be ready to rock this season. Otherwise, it might be just a bunch of Sam Darnold and Trey Lance nonsense under center for San Francisco.

If Purdy is able to go Week 1, or very early in the 49ers' season, then that certainly changes the fortune for the franchise, as well as the team's long-term trajectory of hoisting the Lombardi.

All signs point to Brock Purdy returning soon as San Francisco 49ers star QB

With Lance having next to no trade value and Darnold having suffered ghastly coaching malpractice in his short, but unforgettable NFL career, let's just hope the former Iowa State Cyclone can keep the 49ers afloat. Otherwise, we cannot wait to see Kyle Shanahan use every wrinkle possible of his father Mike's patented zone-blocking scheme to ground and pound, baby!

Look. This good news changes my entire outlook on the 49ers this season. If Purdy can throw and play up to his standard, then this team can definitely win the Super Bowl. I wouldn't say they are the favorites to do so, but the 49ers should remain on the shortlist of about eight teams that can realistically win it all. Should the 49ers want to get to Vegas, baby, the Purdy will have to play well.

Ultimately, a potential sophomore slump out of Purdy does prime the 49ers as a possible pullback candidate. Conversely, who do you have winning the NFC West this year besides San Francisco? I would probably go with the Seattle Seahawks because the Arizona Cardinals absolutely stink and I think the Los Angeles Rams' best days are behind them. Regardless, I feel really good about Purdy.

The sooner Purdy can play for the 49ers, the better their chances are of capturing the No. 1 seed.
