Alisson praised Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah after his two goals in the 2-0 victory over Everton.

Alisson praised Mohamed Salah for his decisive contribution in Liverpool's 2-0 Merseyside derby victory over Everton on Saturday.

Salah's penalty and clinical finish on the counter-attack saw the Reds over the line in a tight clash with local rivals Everton, who had Ashley Young dismissed before half-time for two yellow cards.

The Egypt international now has seven goals in Merseyside derbies, sitting behind Ian Rush (25), Dixie Dean (19) and Steven Gerrard (eight). Salah also shot up to second in the Premier League Golden Boot rankings with his sixth and seventh goals of the campaign.

Salah is a known transfer target for the Saudi Pro League, with Al Ittihad failing during the summer in their attempts to convince the Reds to sell the former Roma star.

After the 2-0 win over the Toffees, Alisson told club media: "This guy is amazing. I'm so glad to have him in our team. I hope he can break all the records that he has in front of him as long as he keeps the red shirt on him!"

Alisson also referenced Liverpool playing in Saturday's early kick-off, a scheduling decision manager Jurgen Klopp has previously bemoaned.

The goalkeeper added: "It's always tough to come back from the national team and play a 12:30. We were travelling a lot, going to South America and playing hard games, but I'm glad we could get the three points. That was massive today."

Klopp paid little attention to the transfer saga over the summer, insisting there were no issues over Salah's commitment to the club.

He added: "He's our player, he wants to play here and that's it."

Salah's performances in 2023/24 so far have been key in Liverpool taking 20 points in nine games with only one defeat, that being the controversial loss at Tottenham at the end of September.
