'Can't Remember To Forget You' by Shakira and Rihanna drew criticism in Colombia for allegedly 'promoting lesbianism'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: With a sizable fan base, Shakira and Rihanna are the two most well-known musicians in the world. However, there was a time when these two heavyweight singers were slammed for allegedly "promoting lesbianism." Shakira's music video in collaboration with Rihanna was prohibited by Colombia's National Television Authority after the country's legislators objected to it and alleged that it advocated "lesbianism."

Shakira was criticized by politician Marco Fidel Ramirez of Colombia for allegedly "promoting lesbianism" in the music video 'Can't Remember To Forget You' with Rihanna. Besides, the authorities prohibited the airing of the video on any of the country's stations, as reported by Daily Mail. The song was released on Shakira's YouTube channel in 2014.

'Damages the moral character of youth'

During that time, a councilor for the Public Option party from Colombia's capital city Bogota stated that the music video "damages the moral character of the youth of Bogota, Colombia, and Latin America." He stated that the Colombian singer, who performed with Rihanna in various seductive positions, was a reference point for the civilization in moral decline.

The two, according to Ramirez, a self-described "defender of morals and principles," should have been ashamed for the song, which he alleged also encouraged smoking, robbing, and killing. He posted on his Twitter account at the time, "Our Shakira with her erotic video is promoting tobacco usage and has become the worst example for our youth."

Ramirez added, "Shakira's new video is a shameless case for lesbianism and immorality. It is a danger to children," and used the #PeligroVideoShakira hashtag, which stands for "Dangers of Shakira's Video." Ramirez stated that the video provided provocative messages to vulnerable people who can be corrupted and persuaded to practice (lesbianism), calling it "simply gross" and nothing but an "apology" for lesbians.

Shakira's rumored affair with Tom Cruise

One of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors at 60, Tom Cruise rarely seems to face rejection. The action hero allegedly set his sights on dating Shakira, but the Colombian singer reportedly turned him down. Shakira, 46, was seen conversing with the 'Top Gun: Maverick' actor at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix on May 7, per MEAWW.

A source close to the actor, however, told Page Six that he thought they had chemistry and that he was interested in dating her. Although she had a "fun" time with Cruise when they first met at the F1 event, another source close to the 'She Wolf' singer claimed that she found the romance rumors "hilarious" and that she had no plans to proceed.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky's relationship

Despite the fact that Rihanna is eagerly awaiting the arrival of her second child, it has recently come to light that the singer and her lover, A$AP Rocky, are in "no rush" to get married. The power couple welcomed their first child in 2022.

An insider claimed that although the 'Umbrella' singer and Rocky have been close for a long time and are expecting their second child, Rihanna was satisfied with the current state of their relationship and believed that marriage would ruin their harmonic dynamic, per Radar Online. Insiders close to Rihanna claimed that before getting married, she wants to protect her $1.4 billion fortune.
